About Me

I am sitting on the floor, cross legged and surrounded by various bags I have made.

Hello! I’m not very good at writing, but here goes.

I’ve been sewing for a really long time, about 15 years now on and off, and I kinda of owe it all to my neighbor when I was growing up. When I was about 6 we moved into out new house, we had the most amazing neighbors. They’d hang out with us and give up popsicles and were just really sweet and kind.  I remember the woman taking to me about sewing. And she had so much stuff, so much material and tools and all this right in her garage. She gave me a handful of fabric and needles and thread and taught me how to hand sew.

I remember the cloth she gave me, this shimmery ice blue with white flowers on it...maybe it was flowers. That was sooo long ago. I’m pretty sure I made Barbie clothes out of it. But anyway, soon after that I was in middle school and I had to take Home Ec. I’d say I was 11 or 12 at this point. And I LOVED IT. I loved creating things. I made pants and bags and stuffed animals and it was fantastic. I took Home Ec again in high school when I was about 14 or 15 and made this large tote bag that I ended up giving to my cousin, who used it for years. My parents got me my first sewing machine after that. I used it all the time for a while, making bags from my own head, most of the time messing them up but hey. It was a start.

I fell out of love for sewing for a few years after that, but came back to it when I was about 19 or 20. I made a baby quilt. And then I made a twin sized quilt, and then probably about five quilts after that on a tiny domestic machine. I decided to start selling the things I’ve made and tried two different Etsy shop attempts in probably four years. Both under different names and I just wasnt ready, apparently, because they never really caught on and I don’t think I was in the best place to start a business anyway.

Until finally, when I was 25 and with the support of my amazing partner, I decided to buckle down and really focus on creating a business for myself. It took me a few weeks to come up with a name, graphics, and courage to launch myself out there again. This time, it caught on. It was slow, but it caught on! It was so encouraging and I was overwhelmed. I had finally found my passion, and my business caught on, all thanks that my wonderful partner who encouraged me to just go for it! I’m 31 now and I’m working towards being able to sew full time!

Thank you so much for reading my ramblings, and I hope you like, share, comment or purchase one of my items. Everything done is a greatly appreciated act of support!

 Love,

Kalyn
